2021 Ford Expedition vs. 2021 Chevy Tahoe

ford expedtion vs tahoe

Any driver comparing the 2021 Ford Expedition vs. Chevy Tahoe knows that they want a vehicle that will never hold them back from adventure. If you’re looking for a full-size SUV that can power family vacations, daily errands, and weekend adventures without trouble, you really can’t go wrong with either option. However, there’s no way around the fact that the Tahoe offers much more to love.

Ford Expedition vs. Chevy Tahoe: Performance

While the Ford Expedition has a slight edge in performance with its standard turbocharged V6 engine, the Chevy offers more impressive engine upgrades:

  • Maximum Power: You can get up to 400 hp by opting for the range-topping Expedition, or you could get up to 420 hp with the Tahoe SUV’s optional 6.2-liter V8.
  • Diesel Efficiency: More importantly for many families, the Chevy Tahoe now offers an exceptionally efficient Duramax® diesel engine, capable of offering up to 28 mpg highway. The Expedition never comes close, topping out at just 23 mpg highway.

Ford Expedition vs. Chevy Tahoe: Interior Capacities

As far as passenger space and cargo volume are concerned, the Chevy Tahoe runs roughshod over its rival from Ford–and that’s true even if you’re also considering the Ford Expedition MAX. Here’s a closer look at what we mean:

  • The Tahoe can seat up to nine passengers in its baseline configuration. Although other models seat up to seven or eight passengers, just like the Ford Expedition, the availability of a nine-passenger option gives the Tahoe an edge.
  • The Tahoe offers up to 122.9 cubic feet of cargo space. The Expedition, on the other hand, offers a maximum capacity of 104.6 cubic feet.
  • Even with its extended wheelbase, the Ford Expedition MAX fails to notch a win. Here you’ll have 121.5 cubic feet, but since the Expedition MAX technically goes head-to-head with the Chevy Suburban, we have to note that the latter offers up to 144.7 cubic feet of cargo space at maximum.

Ford Expedition vs. Chevy Tahoe: Interior Technology

We couldn’t finish our look at each model’s interior without mentioning that the Tahoe includes a 10.2-inch touchscreen as standard, while the Ford only offers an 8-inch screen. Many have found that Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Plus is easier and more enjoyable to use than Ford SYNC 3.

What’s more, where the Ford offers a fairly basic dual-screen rear-seat entertainment system as an optional upgrade, the Chevy takes things to the next level. The optional rear-seat entertainment system in the Tahoe includes two 12.6-inch touchscreens, and you won’t find anything like them on the Expedition.

Ford Expedition vs. Chevy Tahoe: Predicted Reliability

If you’re on the hunt for a full-size SUV, you need to be ready to meet the demands of life in Sicklerville and Sewell head on. You can’t let anything slow you down, and so you have to choose a vehicle that’s built to last! If you want to spend less time in the shop, the new Chevy Tahoe is far and away the better choice

That’s according to J.D. Power, who’ve given the new Tahoe a perfect five-point predicted reliability rating. The 2021 Ford Expedition hasn’t been rated just yet, but since most parts will carry over from the outgoing model, it’s predicted reliability rating of three can give you an idea of what to expect.
